1942. Very chilly. Hung sheets + pajamas outside - they dried without freezing. Don Zentner + men fitted + put on an upstairs storm windows. Adele called me in eve. 1943 Awake at 3:30 with headache. Frank began working at Morey's airport. I got his breakfast, was acutely sick, then slept till 11, got his lunch then went to guild. Packed his supper for him. Sent Hans a suit, shoes, etc. 1944. Thanksgiving Day. Baked my first Danish pastry. Wrote 2 letters. 6 for dinner. Hilda, Ellen Story + Marie Mercer came about 6:15. Roast chicken, honeyed sweets, last Wis. asparagus, cranberry salad, fruit cake. 1944. Awoke to hear trainman call Charleston S. C. and later saw Welden, NC. Train late at D.C. Home a little after 12. Unpacked, read mail. Telegram from Hilda that Donald Andresen killed with his corn picker. Hans phoned to Camilla but couldn't learn details. Called on Mrs. Norberg + the [Ailbertson?] family. To Alex. in P.M. to mail films to Frank. 1946. Saw ice in the [huting?]. Buses crowded so took rickshaw to Marine P.O. Mailed out 40 or so letters + cards at 11 - + PX not open till 1! Tried to cash Travelers Cheques but Mr. Howell could only give 80%. Farewell visit at Rasmussen's. Adeline Gray gabbed + smoked in our room till 11. Hot bath.
