NOVEMBER 27 1942. Got Mrs. Lein to take Mrs. [Wermoth's?] place - baked cookies, took fruit cake to Mrs. Bischoff's surprise birthday party. First of the public card parties at school in eve - I got door prize, 2 decks cards. Frank got 1st for men. More snow. 1943. Ironed, baked bread & honey choc. cake for Mrs. Bischoff's birthday. did some cleaning. To Henkel's in P.M. for party. I got low - a refrigerator butter container - Wrote Hans [paa dansk?] 1944. Rain all day. Baked pumpkin spice cake. Worked on Hilda's coat lining. We worked at Red Cross 2 1/2 hrs. Wrote 15 letters, etc. ["Rev" Libert?], back from Europe, wants Hans to go to Germany with him. 32° 50° 1945 Grass full of white frost. I did a line full of washing, wrote several letters. We called on Mr & Mrs. E. R. McIntyre, 517 Bashford Lane, in eve. Found he was Editor of Wis. Agriculturalist. They came over to see our slides & had nice visit. Their daughter is Mrs. Bob Saprison. 1946. Slept under 6 blankets & army coat. No heat on ship. Nice breakfast in diner which I promptly fed to fishes. Rough going. Both of us sick. Stayed in bunks all day. Steering wheel broke - delayed us several hrs.
