Clara Steen Skott diary, 1942-1946

December 8

1942  Sunny. Awake 2 hrs from 4:15. Shoulders ached - so glad of small ironing. Wrote Hans and RC. Library board mtg - got groceries. Got 1st Christmas card! Began reading "Australian Frontier".

1943 Did ironing, Lengthened Frank's striped pajamas. He stayed in bed with sore throat. Mrs. Schwenn took me to L. Ladies' Aid. I read "Black Madonna" and "He Loved the Peace of Country Ways". Spent an hour with Mrs. Henkel in eve.

1944 Rainy. To blood donor unit at airport in mobile canteen; we served 52. Home in Red Cross station wagon. Wrote Frank Steen the 1944 Skott history.

1945 Worked at airport 6-11, with Canteen Aide Miss Barton, and later Esther Green - 364 served. Nice day. Mended 5 pr. hose, did some cleaning.

1946  Missed the UNRRA church bus. Hans in a Land-Use Conference all a.m. Dinner with Bowman just over from Indiana. Worked on picture book. We walked to Luther World Convention and visited a while with a few Danes.
