1942 0° Colder. Drove to Shaffer's for a chicken. Dressed it and baked honey date bars and choc. cake. Juanita cleaned in A.M. Shopped in Middleton in P.M. - Read in "Australian Frontiers" in eve. Got 3 Christmas cards. 1943. High wind and skiffs of snow, turning colder - Z and I drove to church. 41 at S.S. I read letter from Berea College. Made 5 calls in P.M. - Mrs. Buss. Mrs. Roberts, Zentner's and Mrs. Henkel, also Mrs. Bell - new baby. Painted 4H plaques. 1944 Our first Virginia snow! It was gone before night. Helped grandma cut out blue print dress and apron. Made second nightshirt. Wrapped book for August's boys, Melba's gift. 1945 Ironed, mended, shopped in Alex (drove car). Baked fruit cakes - 2 for Hilda, also bread. 1946 36° 49° Toast and hot milk for breakfast, the latter most expensive, 1500 CNC or 1/3 $! Got 4 letters. Got a 7 lb. can of Wisc. cheese at the P.X. Did some writeups for my scrapbook. Lunch with Mr. Duerst.
