1942 Sunny and cold. 52 at S.S. Made noodles. Took nap. Wrote Christmas notes. Took Z and Mrs. Henkel to Carol sing at church at 4:30. 1943 Cold. I baked honey Christmas cookies, stuffed dates, - sent them and fudge and bonds and Hans' watch chain and towels for Hilda to Washington. 4H Christmas party in eve at school. Miss Hoffmann had charge of games. They gave me box hdfks. 1944 24 deg - 34 deg. Washed, white clothes froze outdoors. Grandma helped me make filled cookies. Sent box to Kathryn. To Canteen Mtg. in eve. Mrs. Hendricks talked of work overseas - New Guinea and Australia. 1945 Ironed tablecloths, etc. mended, wrapped pkgs. Signe sent 10# army clothes to Denmark cousins. Hans and I drove to P.O. and mailed 5 pkgs - 2 to Minn., 2 to Wis. Called on Mrs. Barr, Abingdon, at her request re Circle C business of WSCS. 1946 42 deg - 49 deg. Stayed in bed all forenoon, as throat was sore. Seemed to help my chronic Shanghai cold, too. Walked to UNRRA P.O. with Hans - got 3 pkgs! A Kodachrome film, Dec. Readers' Digest and Nov. Coronet, a can of fruit cake and candy from Hilda and Christmas pkg. from Sig. Hear that Joe Sheridan and Chas. Hambruger are to fly home so will get letters ready.
