Clara Steen Skott diary, 1942-1946

December 14

1942.  Frank's bee-hive making cut down basement space for hanging clothes.  Baked bread + apple upside down cake.  Cut out flannel nightie.  Got '15 circle letter, 3 Christmas cards- and a birthday card!  Wrote 15 circle letter.
-2°  1943.  Wrapped + sent off 3 pkgs.  wore snowpants to mailbox, as usual now.  Washed after lunch, slept nearly 2 hrs.  Baked apple crisp, squash.  Got 2 Christmas cards.  The corner is filling!  Wrote cards.
1944 Ironed, telegraphed Frank $40.  Really cold.  Wrote more cards.  Took jar of honey to Bloden's.  Hilda here for lunch + supper.  Hans + I to Mrs. Hansen's by bus.  I stood 14 miles to get there! + part way back.
1945.  Mrs. Tripp wants us to put on play at Jewish B'nai B'rith.  Signe and I walked to Alex.  about 4.  At Open House at Alex. Red Cross Chapter house.  Got certificate, and service bar for having given more than 200 hours.
45° 51°  1946.  More rain!  Breakfast with Miss Mabel Fan - Marjorie Drury just back.  Wrote Hans' mother.  We got some pics. made from 35 mm. films for our scrapbook.  Ate supper with a Russian.  In eve had rather acute sore throat, but slept well.
