December 17 1942. Several cards going out + coming each day. Sent out 4 small pkgs. Walked to + from Bischoff's for Mother's Club. Gift exch- I took + got pkg of gift labels. Got door prize- yellow low dish for flowers. Too cold to go to school Christmas program. 1943. Windy. Zillie left for her vacation. Did some cleaning. Made surgical dressings all afternoon at Mrs. du Frenne's. Kathryn came home at 6. Pkg from Oskar + Carmilla. K made taffy. 1944.Drove to church to hear Bishop Edwin F. Lee, now living in Alex. Wrote a lot of Christmas notes, inc. one to Pauline. Finished reading a German book, "Himmel, meine Schuhe!" 16° 1945. Hans + I to bed at 12:15 after putting more alcohol in car + bidding Mrs. Norberg goodby. She spends next mo. in Memphis. I baked bread, cleaned bedroom Venetian blinds. Signe helped make cranberry relish. We wrote a lot more Christmas cards. 1946. Hans had dystenery (the popular Chinese ailment) so stayed home forenoon. I brought his work over + helped him. Shopped for paste across the creek. "Wash day on the Soochow." Worked on scrapbook. Letter from Sig of Dec. 6.
