1942 To bed at 1 AM. Fired at 7, got up at 9:45! K went skating. I read (7) letter wrote Cousin Millie, Lois Jean, Hilda. Hans. Read. Very quiet day. 1943 Very nice day. Frank disturbed my sleep at 5 when he bicycled to Morey's. Waffles for breakfast, chicken lima beans and pumpkin pie for dinner - Read 10 pages dansk. Skrev et dansk Brev til Hans. Just Frank & K & I home. Adele hadn't gas to come and we hadn't gas to get soldiers. 1944 32 deg - 44 deg. Hilda and Ellen missed buses so came in at 2 to sleep on floor! Hilda went home to bake pie for dinner. 7 here - "Dick" Hickey of Neb & "Lucky" [Bronher?] of Pa. I fixed turkey en casserole, cr. peas, etc. Lucky had to leave for work. We played pinochle & Nor. whist. Frank wired me doz. roses. Helene sent corsages - cloudy. 4 troop trains. 1945 50 deg. I baked mince pies, cooked turkey, es. potato. Hans and Signe went to Wash. to meet Kathryn, but her train 6 hrs late - sleety rails. Rained all day. She surprised Hilda when she came. We played a few hands of "500" - probably my first since my Md'ton party. Dan and Ellen here a while - she with engagement ring. I crocheted another blue-edge on hdkf. Had our tree in PM! 1946 Ate very little all day - had too much last eve (we get too much of cabbage family). Hans and I took pedicab out N Szechuan Road, found Y.B. Li's oldest sister in law. Tea! & Christmas candy. Spent PM in bed to help warm. Worked on crossword puzzles. Hans finished his Agr. scrapbook. Won most in solitaire. (6 or 7 times)
