JANUARY 20 1948. Felt ambitionless and had sore throat by eve. Mended several prs. of sox for Frank and + put new back in K's p.j.'s - by hand. Got part of studio couch from Pattison's. Turned down Mrs. Ulter's bid to church banquet in Madison. -22 degrees 1949. Coldest yet, but not windy. Walked to school. Last semester report cards out, but several of mine are still "Inc." Walked to Walsh's. Shower for Mary Helen Scott at Mitchell's. I won 1st prize at 500 - box of candy. 1950. Frank has quit staying here - since he quit night school. I walked to town. Worked much on needlepoint. Began reading "Hunter's Horn" by Harriet Arnow. 1951. Baked bread, defrosted freezer. Tank put in dark-room sink, + pipe to furnace. Snowy, blowy day. 3" more snow. Drove downtown, walked to library later. Wrote up community church for W.C. scrapbook. 1952. Hans was short of breath. I couldn't sleep 4-6 so we both slept till 9! Home all day. Hans weak so went back to bed at noon. Had Dr. Weston out "Stay in bed 2-3 days." Gave Hans a shot. He slept + rested well then.. Ice everywhere.
