1948 Signe busy so couldn't come out for her birthday. Extreme cold abated a little. Slept nearly 2 hour in PM in "den" on studio couch as I hadn't slept after 3. Baked bread. Hans & I called on Mrs. Forest Mealey in eve. 1949 Doughnut yesterday ruined my sleep, but cleaned up house, baked a cake which Lois frosted. Walked to town twice. Hans home by 6:30 or so. Read most of "Uncle Jan" of New Bohemia, Wis. 1950 Up at 5:20 & frosted a cake & chipped filberts & cut Brazil nuts for Waldorf salad. Slept on studio couch 6-7. Icy, cold, sunny, Signe, Mary Frances, & Kae & Owen out 9:30 bus - 5:55. Chicken & dumplings. Weidemann's strawberries - 6 of us played Canasta in PM. 1 game each - gave Owen plant, Sig linen towel, pr. pillowcases 1951 Awake after 4. Up from 6 to 7 to get Hans off to office - then I slept till 10! Did little except make tailored samples -14 degrees at noon. Walked to Joe Schwab's in eve for Homemakers' Club - demonstrated tailored belt and covered buckle. 14 there. Actually ate - lemon custard pie (gr. crust) 1952 Hans to Branch 2 hrs. + P.M.
