Clara Steen Skott diary, 1948-1952

June 3

1948. Signe + Hilda left soon after 6 o'clock breakfast, in Hilda's car. Signe to nurse's mtg. in Chicago, Hilda to direct Girl Scout Camp, Defiance, O. I painted west twin windows upstairs + more screens. Hans + I drove to Muscoda, saw fine H.S., Home Ec. room, etc. Very hot. Scott's treated us to pop, showed us apt. to live in at $30! I don't want to move. Came home via Mt. Horde. 
1949. Best day yet. Hans took me to Mary Pine's, Karol S. was there + I found Mary Bahn home. In PM I drove to Orion, found Deloris Woods + Norma Duhr. Then went to Maxine Bartel's with Hans + walked back to bridge. Rode with Mrs. Salmon. Hans + I home in eve. Battery wire broke so had to be pushed. 
1950. Hans hadn't got batteries for his mother so Frank took me to Madison at 9 to get some; also bought myself hat, shoes, dress, slip. Home 12:45 bus. Baked bread, sewed. Frank drove to Maquoketa in eve. 
1951. K + I drove to church. I got more orders for church annual. Now 69. We all went thru new house 2131 North St. To see Mrs. May Pierstoff, home from goiter operation. Got Guild Freds books from Ruth. To adult class mtg. in eve at Hafstad's. 9 there. Decided to study no 8 next fall. 
1952. Sunny, then cloudy + cool. Thru washing before 9. Worked on label - typing an hr. then on bank statement, etc. from 12:50 to 4:30. In eve K + I finished setting tomatoes in Hts. + helped Wierwill's + Cy Moffitt putty nail holes in parsonage.
