July 4 1948 93 degrees. 5 for dinner. Rev. O'Beame from Darlington preached. Mrs. Pierstorff here for dinner. Kathryn went to Pine Lake for 2 wks as Camp Counsellor; she went with Rabe's. Also Hans to see Hancock Exp. Sta. May P and I called on Mary Stolts (?), then I took her home. 1949 K and Steve Lund took us in to Milw. train to Chicago. Air conditioned train our best place for a week. Brunch in sta. No red caps. (illegible) bus. On special B&O train for gripsholm (?) passengers, not air conditioned. 10:30. Only a few stops. We rode in a coach. Ind. and Ohio dry. Slept pretty well, considering. Went via Washington. OK 1950 75 degrees Sunny so had flag out. Home all day. K working at Larson's. Dale here for breakfast and supper. Finished reading "My Indian Family" by Hilda Weinher (?). 1951 Had flag out till noon when it drizzled, so in it came. 66 degrees high! Frank and friend here for dinner (home instead of Comm. picnic). I made "pineapple chip" pie. Hans and I called on the E.R. McIntyre's at Bob Sakrison's and at Moffitts in eve. 1952 I put flag out for all day. Signe here from 9:30 to 6, when K and I took her in. She and Marian will live in small apt. Girls helped and we froze 25 lb peas - 22 pkgs. Anna May froze the same. Frank in bed with cold. Sig and I painted 10 windows on 1 side.
