July 5 1948 Frank left for week at Marshfield. Hans and I went out for milk. I worked in garden an hour or so, till it got hot, then out again in eve to sprinkle potatoes. Finished reading "No Trumpet Before Him" and wrote 4 letters. 1949 Arrived in Jersey City 7:00 AM. Ferry to Manhattan, then to Pier 97 thru traffic, etc. Checked passports, etc. then aboard the Swedish - Am. line Gripsholm. Began moving at noon. Saw "Queen Mary" coming up the Hudson. Beautiful view Statue of Liberty. 4 in our tiny cabin. Mostly Swedes on board. Esther Hanpen! Eat with her and Ragnhild D. Skog of Fargo, Table 19. 1950 Hans left for Fond du Lac at 5:40 AM. After lunch here, Dale left for Ames. Washed windows, hoed garden. 1951 Did next week's washing (I hope) and big one for Frank - 10 T shirts, 16 pr. sox, etc. Hans left for Medford, etc. after breakfast. In eve I saw Wis. Players' "The Heiress", going in on 6 bus and home on 11. Killed time in Union. 1952 K sanded and rewaxed hall floor. I cleaned, baked brown bread - mailed circulars. Worked in P.M - did some statements - Jay W. phoned they can't come till morning.
