July 15 1948 Washed - and it rained! Hung some clothes in basement (which H. Vold had cleaned). Elmore W brought in my string beans and I canned 2 pt. Lenghtened blue gingham and a pink slip. 1949 A few hundred of us got up at 2. It was daylight. Sun rose about 4. Sailed up estuary, docked at Goteborg 4 a.m. Breakfast at 6:30, landed before 7. Bus to train; elec. train thru Sweden , ferry to Helsingor, same train to Copenhagen. Reception at train for our 97, flowers, flags. We went to Am. embassy, learn to use Danish money, start to Marie's Sunday. 1950 K to work at 7. I froze 3 pkg. Swiss chard leaves, canned 3 pt. stalks. We sent pkg. to Knieps. Frank here for Nellie Zeigler's wedding. Fred Tank connected outside taps. Jay Whitson here PM and overnight on way to see Mary Alices and Ediths near St. Paul. 88 degrees, 1951 K and I drove to church. Hans to S.S. - church nearly full. Frank here for dinner. Nap. Hottest so far this yr. 90 degrees at Vold's. After supper we drove to Weidemann's. K, Wes and I played Croquet. Curler's there, also Bruce's living upstairs. 1952 Weeded some, painted 5 screens on 1 side, worked 2-1/2 hrs. at office in AM, nap, painted second coat on most of east side window frames in PM, while carpenters and tin men (for furnace) noised around. Frank up for 1st since July 4.
