August 30 1948 HOT School begins. I was at school from 8 to 5 except for a trip to apt. and one downtown. Short classes. 19 freshmen 10 sophomores and 18 Jr-Sr! Only (illegible) for hot lunch. It's very convenient for us. Very cool night. 1949 A well-filled day. We walked to Husholdnings (Bouehus?) and I visited the class of 32 girls at a demonstration of cake and fish; saw their (illegible), sewing and weaving; their rooms; had coffee and cake and visited their [baby home?] with 16. In PM to Linen Factory. Bought 3 meters toweling and tablecloth - talked Eng. nearly all day. To Bramminge. Peters Hotel. 1950 Did large washing, but misty so few dried. Abe Bonner and 2 men, working for McChesney, came at 2, so all clothes had to come out of south yard. Froze 4 pkg beets (from Vold's garden) baked graham raisin bread. 1951 Started fall housecleaning! (bathroom towel cabinet). Canned 7 pt. apples. Didn't sleep till 1. To Vold's garden, as they are gone all week. 1952 Bought gal. white Super Kemtone, but not soon enough to use it. Cleaned apt., canned 7 pt. tomatoes, mailed circulars, packed. Worked 3-1/4 hrs. at Branch. Sig came and she, Frank and I left at 4:15 for Maq. via M, G, A, 78, 12 & 61. 2 detours to So. Wayne and Lamotte. To Amanda's new house on Short St. Overnite at Velma's.
