October 3 1948. Went to Church-World Communion Sunday. Sign out on 9:30 bus till Hans took her back at 4. I did more cleaning, baked date cakes. Packed a small box for K. Fighting off a cold with Vitamin C. 1949. Actually got nearly 8 hrs. sleep lsat night on ship. Up at 4. Foggy. Lights on Long Is. More ships. Breakfast at 6:30. Official check 7, off at 8:30. I stood in long line, past customs 11:20. Take to 59th St Sta. Noon bus to Jersey City. B & O. Train. 1/2 hrs at Wash. Whole seat each. Scarlet sumacs etc. in N. J. 1950. Ironed. Much cooler. Frank here all forenoon, not well, but up for work before noon. Early lunch. I dug up ivy & periwinkles. Helped Mrs. Blaschke & Palnesich make sandwiches at Myers'. Great night at Woman's Club. Mrs. Fafstad my guest. Louise Mausden talked. 1951. Awoke from 2 on. Tried to sleep after I took Hans to work. Ironed. Made 5 calls: Marcus Schomb, Isabel Swanlind, Mrs. Szelestey, Lois again; Mrs Longe in eve: Got carrots & tomatoes from garden. 1952. Showed Elsie house, Frank's beeyard, etc. Decided to go to Owen's, ate picnic lunch on way there. Saw gen Eisenhower there as his train went there - Tired from trip, so slept 8 hrs, straight.
