OCTOBER 8 1948. We get a fine new sewing machine! And 2 new electric stoves to be installed tomorrow! And Hans a fine big new desk! More rain. Some sophomores began cutting dresses. Finally got Sept. hot lunch report finished and Doris made out checks. I went home on 10:15 bus from Gotham 88 degrees 1949 Ironed, cleaned up apt. Lunch for Sig, who came out on 12:40 bus. Hans got a DeSoto car from Motor Co. in which we drove to MONTICELLO, where we talked to Cecelia [last name] about Inga Iben coming over to U.S. To Amanda's, trailing Velma's, where Harry's and Manfred [last name]. 1950. Up at 6, baked rhubarb-raisin pie. 17 in our S.S. class - kept Hans busy! I helped set up tables in basement from 10:30, directed pot luck dinner, served at 12, to 6 tables full, besides a 1/2 dozen cooks and 6 men. After noon program: Middleteen quartette, little German band, and Carol Schwarz. We took K back to Pardeeville. 29 degrees 1951 First frost here. Fine wash day. I helped Hans put motor back on stoker - then he was all in rest of day. Kathryn started staying in Madison. Mrs. Raccoli here. Ave. temp. 10 degrees below normal. 1952. Warmer. Fine day. Thru washing by 8. Painter, electrician, sanders, furnace men and 5 carpenters at work. Got little furnace going. Floor sanded and sealed. Forms ready in S. garage. Red plastic top on. I took Deone and Judy to hear Adlai Stevenson in Field House, which was full.
