JANUARY 4 1917. Just Leslie, Helen, and I at home. I canned raspberry apple butter, ironed, and finished a white tennis gown. Leslie is winner in crokinole in evening. He calls it “die-on-a-hill.” 1918. Finished August’s shirt except 2 of 17 buttonholes. Heard from Crete Leffler that Beatrice has very serious case of cerebro spinal meningitis. Worked 2 1/2 hours with Hans again on my table. 1919. Snowed and blowed most of day. Coldest day yet. Hans came home on 4:00 A.M. train. I canned 3 qt. pie carrots, steamed brown bread, baked beans, white cake, and ground cherry and mock mince pies. Cleaned up house, mended some. 1920. -7°. Tho zero when we all started to church, we were comfortable in the lodge. We all were at Charlie’s for a big dinner. Took a look at Charlie’s Poland China’s ready for his purebred sale the 12”. At 9 mo. Hilda weighs 22 3/4 #. 1921. Rained a little, but sunny P.M. Lyman Hall sawed wood here in P.M. Hans’ father and Harry here for dinner. Velma and Oscar here yet, too. I baked 3 pumpkin pies, mopped linoleums, hemmed 4 diapers, crocheted edge on blue h'dk'f for Beatrice’s birthday. Letter from Leslie.
