JANUARY 8 1917. We finished Dora's quilt. I walked the half-mile for the mail. Plum Grove begins serving warm lunches at noon - cocoa today. Grace Gibson, teacher. Helen begins staying at Leo. Hise's, working for board. "Dad" Gillmore phoned me 1918. Cold and sunny again. I churned two hours or so with the little Dazey churn and got 1# butter! Baked cream cake. Interviewed Mr. Hansell about routes to Vermillion. Tried to get Mrs. Anderson to take my place as county chairman of food conservation. Sewed at Red Cross. Wrote a short article. 1919. Thawed a lot. Hans in bed practically all day. Oscar Ellefson, Elon Eklund, and Edna Peterson to see him on business. I crocheted a medallion, shrunk 20 some yds. of white goods, walked to P.O. on wet streets. Letters from papa, mamma, Helena, Anna W., Victor Riley, + Hans' grandmother. 1920. Hilda cut her first tooth - at Ben Wilson's. where mamma and I were at Club in P.M. 17 children and 18 women present. Crocheted on my big centerpiece. Sewed on my dress in A.M. Letter + card from Hans and photo from Anna Wilson. 1921. Up late, as I lose an hour or two sleep in night so often. Mapped linoleums, sewed in P.M. on Hilda's plaid gingham dress. Took nap. Hans had fever again in eve, and Adela came up to do chores, assisted by Glen, Lawrence, + Oscar. Supper for them all. Made Hilda a light blue h'dk'f.
