JANUARY 12 1917. I fixed up George's insurance policy for him. Leslie come to town for me. Snowing and cold. Grange installation banquet, more than 100 there. I ate with Jimmy Helmick, and played games some with the "kids." 1918. Baked peanut and white bread, hickory nut cake and oatmeal cookies; helped Constance finish ironing; did some mending for Hans; took a nap. Started packing (a few tools). Hans and I played 500 with Cogswell's till past midnight. Men won 4 games; we won 3. 1919. Mild and springlike, especially in morning. Snow practically gone. Still acting as telephonist for Hans. Up late for a very quiet Sunday. Margaret and I walked to P.O. after dinner. She taught us to play solitaire -- a great time killer. Card from Helena. 1920. Raw and windy, but I didn't get cold in the protected backyard at Elmenhurst hanging our a 2 wks. washing. Charlie's Poland hog sale in town today. Mamma and I here for dinner alone. Made an underwaist with sleeves like my new dress. 1921. 6°. Sunny, cold, and quiet. As my machine repairs have not yet come, I washed some towels, clothes for Hilda, etc. by hand. Got my comfort more than half knotted. Made Hilda another blue hdkf. Letters from my two sisters.
