JANUARY 14 1917. -12°. Took papa to 3:50 train for week out, and Helen to Hise's. Sleighing not very good. I made candy, some for Hans' birthday. 1918. Got dresser scarf wedding present from Hazel S. Helped pack Hans' trunk, pressed his school suit, packed lunch for him; saw him off on the 4:06 P.M train for Vermillion, via Brookings. He took his trunk down to station on Mervin Hanson's hand sled. Constance and I begin "Old Maid's Hall." We feed and water Daisy and Mike; Mr. Larson milks. 1919. Sunny all day - ideal for airing all our bedding. I baked white bread and rolls, ironed, hemmed 7 diapers. Walked to P.O. Letter from Anna. Wrote to Helena. Hans up all day. 1920. Finished ironing. George and the folks went to annual Farm Bureau banquet in Muscatine. Hilda has another cold, and got a bit lonesome besides. I made myself four everyday hdkfs. Letter from Hans. 1921. Hans went to Nashville and Hilda took 3 hr. nap, so I had long day. Bound edges of comfort and fixed protector on one end, finishing that. Made pink thorn stitch trimming on best little nightie Hilda outgrew, for "Johnnie." Milked "Whitey" & "Glow" in eve, as Adela didn't come.
