JANUARY 22 1917. -1°, but I put on George's fur overcoat and went to town for my treatment anyway. I French hemmed a napkin, one of a set of three I cut from an old tablecloth. 1918. Fine sunny day. Ripped up my blue coat of senior days at college. Letter from Hans. He's lonesome - and I'm more lonesome than I ever was. After a spill of some tears, I read in Constance's book "Stepping Heavenward," crocheted, and wrote to Aunt Jennie, Sadie Barnhart, and Hans. 1919. At last did the last machine work on my wool dress. Finished little longcloth dress by hemstitching sleeves. Cut out white smock and did smocking on it in blue. Went to Prentis's white sale and bought blue & white percale for skirt to go with it. Crocheted another foot of petticoat edging. Washed couple of storm windows. 1920. Washed for Hilda, did some cleaning, finished reading "A Daughter of the Land." Hilda took nearly her usual food, had no fever, but was not feeling exactly right. Got circle letter, with picture of Marie Riley. Wrote circle letter. Missed all day club meeting at Margaret's. 1921. Mopped linoleums, baked [never]-fail cake. Letter from Aunt [Emma] with Hilda's Christmas dollar she had forgotten to send. Started crocheting second bootee; made 4 dozen pads.
