JANUARY 23 1917. 180 attended a home talent entertainment in South Prairie schoolhouse in the evening to raise money for the Institute. "When Your Wife's Away," a 3-act farce, music, readings, made up the program. I "dressed up" and gave "The Quarantine at Alexander Abraham's." Constance's mother here in A.M. 1918. Stormy a little in morning. After an almost sleepless night, sent regrets to Mrs. Hansell, who had invited me for P.M. Mrs. Cogswell here in P.M. Finished one pillowcase, made half enough hairpin lace for other, started imitation Cluny lace for large centerpiece. Letters from mamma and Martha F. Leslie is changed from Class I to III. Card from Hans, in Soo City. He has bought a Ford. 1919. Started out foggy as it has been all week, but sun shone all P.M. drying my washing fine I did this A.M. Letter from Hans' mothers that Bill's place if for rent. Our telegram brot reply it is already rented again disappointing our hopes of farming in Iowa. Dr. Weaver and Mr. [Niminger?] here in eve. Played 500, consumed popcorn & grape juice. 1920 Mamma and I cleaned the downstairs. Snowed all day, postponing grange a week, which was to have met at Elmenhurst. Hans came on 3:00 P.M. train. Letter from Myrtle Nelson. 1921. First morning to have frost for several days, that even got quite warm. Hilda plays again on back porch on sunny mornings. I just loafed, except for what had to be done, and read, etc.
