JANUARY 25 1917. Left here at 8:30. Miss Barnett of Ames judged all forenoon. My pillowcases mamma knit lace for got 1st over 7. More than 200 came. heard Miss B. and Jimmy Helnick. Roscoe Harrison, '15, there, also G.R. Bliss. The women voted to get up South Prairie cookbook. 1918. Another mild day till evening, when it got cold rapidly. I baked hickory nut cake and rye-oatmeal bread, one loaf for the bachelor. Began making guimpe of old flowered silk chiffon over blue silk (old coat lining). Constance and I went to church supper, then to farewell for Rev. Dale and dedication of church of Newport. 1919. Finished the ironing, cleaned up house. Finished striped percale skirt. August put in bid for us for Pifer place to rent, but lost out. I walked to P.O. for mail. Letters from Herman, Georgia, and Alma R. Went with Hans, Edna P. and Judge Copeland to Westreville Institute in eve. Hans put on Soils illst. lecture. 1920. Zero weather. Hans and I walked to Kennedy's & back just before noon, when it was nice and sunny. We got our 1920 account book started, and orders to Sears & M. Ward made out - some Sunday tasks! 1921. Colder. Baked white and graham bread, made two diapers, finished painting the cab, and put new upholstery on the hood of it. Wrote to Sis.
