JANUARY 28 1917. Got dinner while the others were at church. Paul, Millie, and baby Verna came for dinner and to stay this week. Paul is to do chores while the men are gone. 1918. Warmer. Got circle letter. Bachelor gave us a fish. Worked on my silk-and-chiffon guimpe, dried more potatoes, and wrote an article "Selecting Kitchen Equipment." I forgot and left gate open and Mike helped milk. Mrs. Lohi and Cora Sorenson called, to look over house. Constance helped me print pictures in eve at school. 1919. Warmest day of a warm month. Took a walk to Miss Blair's in A.M. and to town in P.M. Put in final stitch on blue wool dress, covering 18 buttons and sewing them on. Cut out gray percale by Hoover dress pattern and sewed on it. Baked cake. Read in "Jane Eyre." Wrote to Miss Clark. 1920. Mamma and I ironed some and canned 10 qts. of Ben Davis apples. 4 qt. my share. Sewed on Hilda's quilt. Letter from her great-grandmother Elissat. - 4°. Wrote to Cousin Millie. 1921 Hans' mother and I worked with the pork all day. I finished frying out more than 5 gal. lard & made brine - and took nap. She fried sausage, pickled pigs feet, etc. Hans and I culled out red hens in eve, & emptied Hilda's bank.
