Clara Steen Skott diary, 1917-1921

1917-1921 - 02-15

February 15
1917. I got off alone at Clinton at 2:00 A.M. Spent 2 hrs or so in Hotel Kehol. Took 5:10'ruben to Davenport, where I. F. Gillmor met me in his Ford. We went out some 20 mi. to Marston, where I gave the first HEC talk and demonstration to 75 women. Supper at Struble's. Heard Wm. Eckhardt.
1918. Packed sewing box, cedar chest, and blue trunk. Finished corset cover. Mrs. Cogswell here in P.M. and they in eve where we played more than an hour on part of a game of "500." Mrs. John Olson- Constance's mother- here for dinner.
1919. Clear day- sunny P.M. Mr. Gallup shoveled drifts from our walks then Hans came on noon train, leaving Ford at Alcester. I cleaned up house, finished bedspread, and pressed it, also finished second flannel petticoat. Have a slight cold. 
1920. -11°. Felt miserable again, a mean backache and some headache and quite a bit of fever in P.M.
1921. Hazel did most of a 2 wks. general washing for me. Letter from mamma. Windy. Signe had wakeful evening from still nearly 11. I got all tired out.
