February 16 1917. After a restful night at Gillmor's in Aledo, I went on the "Rock Island Southern" interurban to R.I. Had ride home from Davenport in company with A. M. Lambert. Mamma came to town to bring me home. 1918. Constance and I did a two weeks washing. I baked (coarse) graham bread. After dinner we took pictures of long-horned oxen, and wood yards full of wood. I wrote to Hans, mopped kitchen floor. Mrs. Noyes Called. I packed my trunks and most of a barrel of canned fruit. Announcement of Kenneth John Goldsberry. 1919. Sunny, and thawing some. Worked on memory book a little. Took walk to town with Hans, but snow makes it a little hard going. Planted peppers. August came in at 9:30 P.M. and stayed all night. Letters from Hans grandma Elissat. 1920. Still cold. My backache changed to sharp pain in my lower right lung in P.M. and Dr. Ady came out and headed off what might have been pneumonia. This grip is bad enough. Wrote Hans. 1921. Drove a half hour and began the mending. Both girls didn't sleep at some time, so I missed my daytime nap. Letter from Margaret F. Oscar didn't come up tonight. A terrific wind blew all day.
