Clara Steen Skott diary, 1917-1921

February 23
1917. I cleaned up the downstairs. I brought Helen and Mabel Helmick out from town. At grange Mabel and others took first two degrees. She played here all night. I was appointed a captain in the grange attendance contest. 
1918. Train got in St. Paul at 6:20 but I slept an hour later than that. Fine warm day. Got on local R.9. train at 9:00 and reached West Liberty after 8 P.M. Papa got on at Cedar Rapids. George met us in surrey. SooLine failed to bring my checked suitcase, and I had to wear moccasins home! Elmenhurst Farm. 
1919. Hans and Mr. Hart had bumpy ride in from Garfield in lumber wagon, getting here about 11:00 A.M. I felt weak and good-for-nothing all day. Read some in Scott's "Fair Maid of Perth," played cards some. We napped all P.M. 
1920. Washed for Hilda and packed my trunk, but it made me quite tired. Wrote to Herman. 
1921. Card from Sis and wrote to her. Regular program- just baby + housework. Letter from momma. Signe awake till about eleven at night.
