March 4 1917. Got dinner for eight in spite of a bad cold. Uncle John and Aunt Minnie came for dinner. I read most of Zane Gray's "Heritage of the Desert." 1918. Helen stayed home from school. It is so muddy. I nearly got stuck getting mail, tho I had on Ladies high 4-buckle overshoes. Stopped at Kennedy's. Canned 6 pts of plum-apple butter and 2 qts Winesap and 3 qts York Imperial apples. Crocheted 6 rows on my rug. 1919. Cleaned kitchen cabinet. Crocheted- started second ball of thread on filet lunch- square. Hemmed seven outing diapers. 1920. Wrote to papa. It doesn't go so bad if I shut my eyes to dirt. Just caring for Hilda- who is very good- and cooking meals is about all I'm good for. I cleaned cabinet, washed flannels for Hilda. Amanda had her tonsils + adenoids removed in hospital. Olga went with her, too. A blizzardy day. Hilda used her new bed for play pen, and slept in it at night too. 1921. Baked bread and mince pies. Dehorning man here for dinner. Signe awake most of P.M. so I missed my nap. Letter from Helen. Hilda weights 31# at 23 mo. Celebrated by first climbing up on table, falling off stepladder stool + rocking Signe to sleep! Read till 10:30, when Signe went to sleep.
