March 5 1917. Much better. A horribly raw wind. Mamma and papa attended Mrs. Mark's funeral in Wilton and stayed to visit Mrs. Nienaber and others. Worked on my bed-spread. 1918. Up to 60°. Mud begins to dry away. Saw first robins. Canned 5 qts. Ben Davis apples, and packed most of a barrel. Made three more rows on rug, nearly completing it. Walked down for mail again. Helen walked to school and stayed in town. Crocheted lace. 1919. Baked beans, muffins, and pumpkin pies with wash-fire. Week's washing hung out before 10:00 A.M. Mopped kitchen floor. August dropped in for dinner. Crocheted, and embroidered. Mr. Miller of Extension Dept., Brookings, here in evening. I beat Hans and "Shorty" at Norwegian whist. 1920. Feel pretty good, was outdoors in P.M to feed chickens and gather eggs to make 28 for today from our flock of 84. Cleaned and straightened most of pantry. Hans went to Nashville in evening for Adela and Amanda. They had a terrible time- broke buggy tongue, home at 12. 1921. Signe woke for one feeding so I got 6 hrs sleep and one in P.M. Hans and Oskar farming oats at their folks so I had a good day to work. Washed diapers + flannels, swept ours and Oskar's bedrooms, baked never fail cake. Regular a spring day, robins here, Hilda playing out in yard, etc. Rain + thunder storm in eve.
