March 9 1917. Cleaned upstairs, worked on spread, and embroidered in pink-and-blue on pillowcase. 3" and 4" degrees at grange, George also taking them. Attendance contest begins, Ralph Wolf and I captains of the "submarines" and "aeroplanes". 1918. Visiting with Han's folks. Amanda, Adele, Oscar, and Velma only ones of the children now at home. Otto Weidemann there in evening. Hans and I beat him and Amanda at "500." A very dark windy day, with some rain and snow. 1919. Snowed in forenoon, huge wet flakes, which melted in P.M. Hans and I walked to P. O. and courthouse in P.M. I pasted a lot of pictures in my memory book. In evening Margaret helped us print pictures, mostly for her. 1920. Warm; lots of snow melted. Washing separator and other chores take most of my time. Hung some pictures and put mirror on small dresser. Adela here night + morning. Made oilcloth doily set for everyday use on bare dining table. 1921. Mr. Helfridge here for dinner, cutting posts for us. Signe had her first Ford ride. We took her to Maquoketa. Dr. Johnson said she has a bad umbilical rupture and we shall have to be careful. Letter from Martha Forman. Main road fine.
