March 11 1917. Home all day. I wrote a few letters, read, and did some lettering in my memory book. Millie and Paul were coming out for supper, but decided it was too muddy. 1918. Good rest on Pullman, getting up to change from our Milwaukee train to another at Sioux City. Arrived in Vermillion S. D. 12 hours after leaving Delmar. Our household goods not here yet. We ate at Lanton's cafeteria room at W. A. Chanssee's. Saw our new bungalow. We took 31 mile Ford ride on seedcorn quest. Roads fine except in spurts. 1919. Again finished week's washing by 10:00 A.M. Clothes never thought of freezing. Sunny, warm, and very muddy. Finished second ball of thread on crocheted square. Slept in P.M. an hour. Letter from mamma. Mr. and Mrs. Miller here in evening. 1920. Didn't freeze over night; very muddy. I feed our first calf (that lived) once or twice every day. Hilda and I had good sleep in P.M. each in our own bed in bedroom. Unpacked and straightened my trunk. I taught the calf to drink without sucking my finger 1921. Signe had colic in afternoon and evening and was awake till late. I average five hours or so of sleep at night. Letter from Amanda. Had hard time to get just necessary work done.
