March 14 1917. I had sat around the house all week till I didn't feel extra. I finished my pair of pillowcases with variegated pink-and-blue hairpin lace trimming. Florence sent me a spoon. 1918. Instead of going to Wakonda with Hans in Ford to meeting tonight, as planned, I have to be a "widow" again. Several inches of snow, making it very sloppy. I helped Willie Nelson take off 500 ears of corn at seed testing station. Crocheted, wrote to Zelma and Constance. Letter from Edna C., now head dietitian for base hospital at Camp Wadsworth, Spartausburg, S. C. 1919. Dark day, raining some. I wrote to Martha Forman; got letters from Aunt Minnie and Millie (at W.L), and little knit hood from mamma. Made two large bed pads. Finished crocheting filet square. Baked "Economy Cake" and mock mince pie and shells. 1920. Hans and I went in wagon to his folks at noon. Hans Fuglsangs were there in P.M. We brought home our geese and a sow and 8 pigs. My hens laid 32 eggs. 1921. Signe had to be fed three times in night, so I only got to sleep about 5 hrs., in 4 pieces. Was so tired out I slept a whole hour after breakfast. Just meals and necessary work.
