March 17 1917. Cleaned downstairs, etc. Went to town and helped Helen choose her new spring suit, then brought her home "to fit it." 21 - 7 girls and 14 boys - braved March wind and surprised both kids- Clark Wolf won in Progressive Some'r Set. We served green "eats." 1918. Letter from Mabel Crossley. A warm, sunny day. Hans and I were home all day except for a walk in P.M. to Chausee's to get another suitcase full of things- then Hans couldn't shave after he got his razor because it was too dark! Roads are terribly muddy yet. 1919. Sunny but windy. Roads begin to dry some, at last. I set linen center in filet square, made 3 muslin T-bands, embroidered and crocheted each and hour. "Chesty" Miller and Hans dug hot-bed hole, then as Mrs. M. has gone to Montana with her sister, we had her cousin. Justinius Westre, and "Chesty" here for supper. 1920. A fine quiet sunny day. I washed for Hilda, by hand, as my machine repairs haven't come. As usual, I did a number of small jobs. Letter from Sis. 1921. Hazel did the washing and ironing- for $1, not bad. I opened my sewing machine after nearly 2 mo. of disuse. I let down a dress for Hilda, made Signe another flannel band, etc. Start giving Signe one bottle of milk a day.
