April 4 1917. Sewed on Helen's dress, and finished my round tablecloth. 1918. Screens are being put on house. Hans helped me carry crates, etc. to basement. Wm. Nelson plowed our garden. Anna and I made 3 flats for tomatoes. In evening we went to District No 12, Norway Tuip. Anna drew pictures, I talked on food Conservation, and Hans on Testing Seed Corn. 1919. Woke about 1:15 A.M. About 4:00 Hans called up Dr. Townsend, and Mrs. Meleen and went for the latter. Our little girl Hilda was born just before 6:00A.M. I took anaesthetic. We sent announcement out. I slept an hour in P.M. Mrs. Miller called, brought me can of black cherries; Mrs. Stewart brought rolls. 1920. Hilda weighs 25#, creeps fast; jumps in her jumper, says "daddle-daddle", etc. and stands to a chair. Her grandparents Skott, Oscar, Velma, Olga, Orville, and Adela here for dinner. Olga brought her a birthday cake; Grandma S. gave $1, Bertha Goldsberry sent her crocheted yoke. I baked pumpkin pies. Set table for 10. Cold, windy day. 1921. Hilda says many words, but not in connection, plays outdoors by the house, and in strong and healthy. She got 26 pennies, mostly from Adela; we got her a Mother Goose book. I baked her "Ice Cream Cake." I baked bread by noon. Got Hillside letter.
