April 9 1917. I have pink-eye in the other eye, worse luck! I could do very little on that account. Pasted pictures in my memory book most of the afternoon. Helen begins going back and forth to school. 1918. Up at 8. After various stops at farms, went to Jas. P. Varnum's, where we stayed for dinner, placed hired hand. Stayed there for dinner, then to Centerville. At Farmes to hunt up corn for seed. At John Eklund's for supper. More than 50 at Fog Creek School house meeting. Stayed at Varnum's. 1919. Card from Cousin Emma. with little yoke for Hilda. I sat up two hours and ate supper at the table. Snowed most of day. Mrs Rees brought me some chocolate pudding. Wrote to mamma. Letter from Hans' mother. 1920. Washed Hilda's woolens; washed separator, a weekly instead of daily job, now we sell whole milk. Fed 2 litters pig three times while men were gone. Took some pictures of Hilda. Fine warm day. Adela in Maquoketa, back here in evening. 1921. Hilda got blue dotted material for apron from Helene. I baked bread and pumpkin pies, while Adela cleaned up house. Snowed bit in A.M. I put out first hen, with 13 chicks from 14 eggs, and set 4 more hens, now making 11.
