April 16 1917. (Should be Apr. 15). Herman is home for the day. Helen, papa, George, and I went to S.S. and church in George's new Ford. 1918. More rain in night. I stayed at Wright Hotel all forenoon, killing time crocheting filet lace. After dinner there we drove to Irene, and thru "Ireland". Discouraging place to try to do anything. Supper at Sam Artz'. 21 at Star twp. meeting in school no. 44. Drove home nearly 30 mi. 1919. Hilda is worse and worse- cries so much at night, didn't sleep from 10 P.M. to 3:00 A.M. Hans got some "Elixir of Catnip and Fennel", but she began a good long sleep before she got any. Sunny most of day, and windy. Amanda did a big washing. Mrs. Stewart and Helen called again. I was on my feet quite a bit, even out to the hot bed. Hans + Amanda made garden. 1920. Finished trimming my hat, with blue ribbon shirred around crown, and blue roses - looks rather nifty. Made cream cake. Letter from Myrtle Nelson. 1921. Snow and N.E. wind all night and until evening. 6 or 8in. + drifted badly. The coop in which were my 13 week-old chicks were nearly buried in snow, but they were snug + warm. Wind made kitchen chimney smoke so I got 2 meals on heater. Got bread of Hazel + Mrs. Lofe Scott. Adela came from Wilson's in A.M. She fed Signe her bottle quite easily. I mended + took nap.
