April 20 1917. Ironed some, swept upstairs, baked cookies, worked on spread. In the evening, papa took me to the 8:50 train. I stayed all night at Anthes Hotel in Ft. Madison. 1918. Didn't do a thing- felt miserable all day. Hans planted pok choi, pie carrots, and Chinese mustard in garden. J.C. Denison, wife, Winfield, and Gladys were here in evening. 1919. Easter Sunday fine warm sunny day. Hans and I walked to church to the Easter exercises while Amanda kept Hilda. Also walked to P.O. and to our acre of garden by Catholic church. Letter from mamma, and baby booties from Hazel G. Wrote to Helena, her mother, and Uncle John's. 1920. Baked pumpkin pies, mopped linoleums, fixed up waste basket for men's room, and various other odd jobs. Cleared up at noon. Letter from mamma. 1921. Hazel came to take care of baby from 9 to 12- then she slept most of that time! I washed diapers, and mopped out these muddy rooms, and put out 112 chicks from 145 of my eggs Hans' mother set in her incubator, also 36 from 3 of my hens. Letter from Sis.
