April 21 1917. Went from Ft. Madison to Stockport, where Sis and baby Beatrice met me, and we went to Inwood Farm. I took Wayne and Allan each a spade, hoe, and rake from mamma. John Leffler is also staying here. 1918. Wrote to Helena. I was home alone a good part of the day while Hans went out to get corn samples at request of farmers. Letter from August at Crosby. Local board at Bogley sent word that district board at Duluth changed Haus to Class 1, I. 1919. Slept late, a trick I've acquired when Hilda keeps me awake at night. Washed some baby flannels, sewed ribbon trimming on my new hat, planted more early peas. Rain + hail in P.M. Wrote to mamma. Crocheted once again, on novelty braid. Hilda is back on three-hour schedule for feeding. 1920. Constance came on the 7:00 A.M. train. Hans brought her out from Elwood. I did a huge washing, and finished by noon, with her help, hanging. Put out my first little white chix, baked cream cake. My family is quite large, 7 in all. 1921. Hans went to town and brought out Minnie Durkop to help me this summer. Papa phoned from Maquoketa at 6:00, and Hans got them from Nashville at 7. Mama brought me blue + white percale for dress + seed beans. Today is their 40th anniversary.
