April 24 1917. Finished Dora's coat and monekeyed around. Letter from Hans favoring Bagley, Minn. In the evening John took us to Harrisburg church, where I was to pronounce words for twp. spelling contest, But a storm came up quickly. Lucy Miller and Etta Huff stayed all night. 1918. Did a big two-weeks' washing. Hans fixed up permanent clothes line for us and Tjaden's. I unpacked book box, which completes unpacking. Did some mending and finished second blue dress for Beatrice. Letter from Constance. Hans and I put some corn to ear-test. 1919. Frost in morning. Got dinner and baked gingerbread while Amanda cleaned bathroom. Hilda sleeps fine and is more like herself again. I finished putting novelty braid + crochet edge on sheet. Amanda went with Mr. Keith in evening to a play. Took nap just before supper. Hans in for late supper. 1920. Milking before breakfast doesn't go so well with me. I did a 26 piece woolen (etc.) washing, baked a pumpkin pie, helped Hans with testing Golden Bantam corn; first gosling hatched; made out M.W. order. In evening we all went to Maquoketa, Constance and we went to movie "Heartsease." 1921. We and mama went to Hans' folks for dinner. Home at 3:30. Strong wind had moved silo several inches. First asparagus for supper. Mr. + Mrs. Marshall Cook here to see milking machine work.
