April 25 1917. Dora, Beatrice, and I took dinner with Mary Jane Easter and her father. The little boys ate with the "big boys" at the parsonage, where they are plowing. Very raw wind. We crocheted and visited, and canned rhubarb. 1918. Letters from Hazel Grimes and Hazel Scott. Cleaned and mopped the house, baked a wheatless cake, ironed, mended. We met Miss McNiel from Brookings in P.M. and took her home. After supper we three went to Jim Olson's and J.C. Denison's. She is state leader of home demonstration agents. 1919. Ate breakfast with others for once. Hemmed sheets, finishing my new pair. Amanda cleaned my bedroom and I sunned a lineful of woolens. Letter from Mabel Crossley. Had first radishes from hotbed for supper. I walked to Mrs. Meleen's in evening. August in for first time to see Hilda. Hilda stayed with Amanda and slept. 1920. Hazel Warren here for morning call. Constance and we went to Lofe Scott's in P.M. Saw most of his 225 pigs. Olga and Orville came in eve. and took us to Hans' folks. Hilda slept all time. We got stuck in a rut a hill coming home. 1921. Hans took mamma to Maquoketa for morning train - and missed it, as it goes earlier. She finished my dress. Took off 3 hens; now have 205 chicks. Very hard dashing rain after dinner. Minnie cleaned pantry.
