April 29 1917. Rain and mud, but papa and George walked to church. I mailed a bunch of letters with them, then loafed all day. Read some in H.G. Wells' "Mr. Britling Sees It Through". Eyes about O.K. Commencement invitation from Helen. 1918. Mended a bunch of hosiery, started sewing hairpin lace in second pillowcase, cut out and started making white georgette waist for Sis. Hans and I planted Kentucky Wonder beans and second planting of peas and radishes. "Bill" Breakenridge, Co. Agent of Cherokee Co., here for dinner. 1919. Not very good wash day. Sent $20 order to M.W. &Co. Had Dr. Borst begin some dental work for me. Started crocheting medallions for collar for my old suit. Hans and I removed tomatoes, ground cherry, + aster plants from hotbed. Hilda now wears Vanta vests in place of bands. 1920. I built pen for goslings, cremated two dead hens, baked lemon pie; drove team (one blind and one colt) for Hans to plow garden, also rode the drag for it; Mr. and Mrs. Whitney here in P.M. for first time. Mended a little. 1921. I did three machinefuls of woolens, etc. We planted sweetcorn, more peas, and several varieties of beans, also asters. Mr. + Mrs. Whitney here for first time since last fall. Signe only lacks 2 oz. of weighing 16# at 3 mo., having doubled her weight.
