Memoranda 1917. So much continued cold that April brought no fruit blossoms, and everything backward. Propaganda to "raise more foodstuffs" impossible to follow. 1918. April rather cool. Plums beginning to come out. More "war gardens" than ever being put in. Clay Co. Farmers putting in more than twice usual acreage of wheat to help Uncle Sam and the Allies. Seed corn worst ever. 1919. April very cloudy. Hilda claimed most of my time this month. While she has not gained, yet she is very strong and seems to be healthy, and is good most of the time. I feel fine- nipples practically well at last. 1920. Very late spring, with much wind and rainy weather. Two men and Hans get a good start at our Farming operations. Keeps me too busy, even with Constance to help me. Hilda is very good. I seem to be having beginner's luck with chicks and goslings. 1921. Early spring. 24 cows to milk, even with machine, keeps Hans busy. I'm more than busy with a spoiled baby. Signe's rupture remains the same. Minnie will be a good helper. Have more chicks than I ever had before.
