May 1 1917. Baked fig cookies and gooseberry pie. Weather cleaner. Crocheted other pillowcase edge. Hans has accepted position as agriculture teacher at Bagley, Minn. for next year. He wants to be married soon - "right away" 1918. Baked war bread (white sponge mixed stiff with barley flour + oatmeal). Washed wool sweater + dress, mopped, ironed some. Wrote mamma and Helen. Went to town and mailed Sis' things. We transplanted kohlrabi and sweet corn to garden, and started peanuts in flats. 1919. Fine sunny day - first for some time. I painted gray the reed body on Hilda's carriage, washed a lot of flannels + 26 diapers. Amanda and Hans were gone to Wakonda most of the day. I baked bread, napped. Hans and I transplanted big tomato and cabbage plants from hotbed into garden. 1920. Put and 26 dandy chicks from 2 hens. Fine day. I baked oatmeal-molasses cookies. washed some flannels. Constance and I put in our first garden seeds - radishes, head lettuce, peas, onion sets, wax tomatoes, + stringless beans, kohlrabi, cabbage, carrots, + few Ponderosa 1921. Rather raw + windy, so I stayed home all day. Got a two hour sleep in P.M. alone with the babies. Wrote to Sis.
