May 7 1917. I begin packing my belongings- a mere start- as I cleaned sewing room. Mamma got me a plaid gingham dress, which I cut out and worked on in afternoon. Wrote Miss Knowles I could not help in Iowa Canning Campaign. 1918. Did a big washing. Helped Hans put Ford together after he greased the springs- some job. To celebrate clean car we took a little joy ride in evening. We read some corn in testing-station. Letter from Adela. "Chesty" Miller gave us lettuce from his cold-frame. 1919. Hilda slept while I did good-sized washing. Nice day. Put muslin dress on Hilda and we called on Mrs. Miller, also went for walk. Harry Boyts in for few minutes to see Hilda in evening. She slept fine last night. 1920. Took Adela to Elwood to school and brought out our new cot. I set it up. We're too busy to use it much! I bake bread and rolls, washed woolens; Constance and Hilda and I drove over the hills to folks but came back longer way. Late with the work. Letter from mamma. 1921. Minnie + I stepped around lively-baked bread and cake- she cleaned- at noon we went to Maquoketa. Hans took Queen for treatment. First time I drove Ford since Sept. Got truss for Signe. Laura Stewart came out with us and we visited late.
