May 9 1917. I did a big washing. packed all afternoon, sorting out and burning old letters, etc. Papa mended Herman's old trunk for me, also my college book box. 1918. Read 600 ears in testing station, canned 16 qts rhubarb, and 2 pts. of pork Mrs. Hans Anderson gave us. Baked war bread. Glady and Winfield Denison, among 115 taking 8" grade rural exams, here came for supper and all night, as it was so muddy. Dr. Weaver of Brookings here for supper. 1919. Hilda took first outdoors sleep in her cab, on back porch from 11:30 to 4:00. She made her first gain of 3 ounces. I got my first daytime sleep this week. Did some cleaning, mending, + pressing. We wrote to Dr. Pearson, to recommend Miss Clark as Dean of Women at I.S.C. as she wrote Hans to. Amanda here in evening. M.W. goods came. 1920. Up late, 6:30. Just did usual chores, rested, went to folks in P.M. little while in Ford. Han' mother not home. Wrote to August, Amanda, + Helen. Warm, sunny Sunday in bloom. 1921. Finished Hilda's gray bonnet, finished upholstering Signe's cab, begun last January. Hans began planting corn.
