May 11 1917. Washed front room windows, and helped hang clean lace curtains. But I slipped and fell, getting down from radiator, breaking a rib and tearing it loose in back. Dr. Hinchman came out and plastered it up, and prescribed quiet. Aunt Minnie and Gail out in P.M. 1918. Saturday cleaning, baked rhubarb pie, and roasted back bones Mr. Denison gave us yesterday. Read 500 ears in testing station. Hans and I cut pea bush; prepared ground and transplanted madeira, moonflower, balloon, and kudzu vines. Planted aster, snapdragon, sweet alypsum, and (Geo's) beans. Cultivated whole garden here. 1919. We drove out to Wm. Gunderson's and Anton Nold's, staying at latter place for dinner. Rainy so we didn't stay long. Amanda here in evening. Olga writes for us to come down the 23". I wrote to Helena. Letter from Hazel Scott. 1920. Did large washing; put out last chicks- 10; shelled corn a while. I killed a dandy month-old chick with coop. Started to read "The Squaw Man." Peas blossoms out. 1921. Helped Minnie iron- she washed windows, etc - I baked pumpkin pies. Drove Ford to Elwood and back in 35 min (8 mi.) to take Adela to school dinner party. Very warm. Mended.
