May 14 1917. Sat up all forenoon, crocheting, etc. Soreness about gone from back, but not from side. Doctor came out and changed plasters: "No trip for two weeks at least- have to keep quiet." Slept upstairs again. 1918. Very high wind, but at 3:00 P.M. I went- on sudden notice- to Sioux City, 36 miles. With Hans and Mr. Denison. Tired to see Grace Conlon- not in. Got home about 7:30. Mr. D. had supper with us, then we took him home, and got a big lot of rhubarb of Jaeger Bros. again. 1919. Did ironing in an hour, except spread which took 3/4 hour more. Mrs. Miller brought me rhubarb + apple blossoms. Hilda and I went down town to see Dr. Townsend about her sore forehead, but he wasn't in. Hans and Dr. Weaver gone to Wakonda till late. Sewed a bit. Mailed letter to Sis and card to Alma Riemenschneider. 1920. Got circle letter and from folks. Up at 4. Hans planted corn till late. Ice on chicken trough in morning. I washed my hair. Cleaned up several pairs of shoes, baked bread, a sausage loaf, prune pies, and cream cake. Went to Elwood to mill and got freight. Mr. Cram rode with me. Ran out of gas before I got home. 1921. Hans finished planting corn, and I dropped 2 bu. late potatoes for him, Hilda out there in the wind with me, too. Took long nap. Letter from Mary, inviting us to Elmenhurst. Sent most of a 22 doz. order of eggs to Hans' mother.
