May 15 1917. Wore a dress, for a change. Began to hem my set of linen napkins, crocheted some. Read, etc. to put in the time. Warm and nice. Radishes from the garden to eat. 1918. Canned 10 qts of rhubarb. R.C. Pollock Ass't. State leader (I.S.C. '13) here for dinner. Steamed brown bread, baked rhubarb pie. Mrs. Jas. P. Varnum of Centerville here in P.M. She and Mr. V. Stayed for supper. Ames commencement invitation from Mildred Transplanted eggplant and garden huckleberry. Windy. 1919. Up late. Forenoons slip by with nothing done but house work and Hilda's bath, etc. as usual. Baked rhubarb pies. She also sleeps on porch more than 4 hrs. Put zinc oxide salve on her I got from Mrs. Stewart. Sewed on waist lots. Mrs. "Chesty" here again. Letter from Helena. 1920. For second time Jim and Constance failed to get Ford home after spending Sat. eve in Maquoketa. Broke my watch. 1921. Baked "penny muffins" (raise with yeast). High wind. Hilda and I have colds.
