May 16 1917. Walked out to view plum blossoms, etc. Finished first ball of cream thread for crocheted bedspread edge. Did some writing, letters, as little for papers, etc. Persuaded to defer our plans till August, as originally planned. 1918. Canned 2 1/2 qts of rhubarb-fig preserves. Baked quick wheatless bread and oatmeal macaroons, also wheatless. Helped Hans put new repair on Ford. Terrific wind and dust again. We called very informally at Tjaden's in evening. 1919. Hilda has gained 1/3 pound in the last week. What with Hans and Hilda keeping me awake, we slept late and I got nothing done but care for Hilda, 3 meals as usual, washed 30 diapers, etc. In evening, however, we drove 5 blocks to our big garden-nearly an acre-by Catholic church, and planted early potatoes, sweet corn, soy beans, + cow peas. Amanda helped. 1920. Olga and Orville stopped here a while in forenoon and afternoon; they, Adele, and Constance at Skott's for dinner. We toasted marshmallows- by the heating stove as it was too chilly to go to woods. Wrote circle letter and to Bess. 1921. I finished lavender striped blouse. Nice day.
